Over 20 Democrat-led US states fight Trump’s PSLF overhaul: Here’s why student and teacher loan relief is at risk

Over 20 Democrat-led US states, joined by several cities and non-profit organisations, are suing President Donald Trump’s administration over a new Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) rule. The policy could block teachers, students and other public workers from student loan relief if their employers are deemed to have a “substantial illegal purpose.” The states argue the rule unlawfully restricts access to loan forgiveness and threatens workforce stability across education and public service sectors.
